It studies the metaphysical and epistemological status of values, broadly understood. Values are what matter to us. They are what motivate our behavior. They ground our judgments about what is good or bad, desirable or undesirable. When moral values derive from society and government they, of necessity, may change as the laws and morals of the society change. A person may, under any given set of circumstances, decide to do what is forbidden. If this individual possesses moral values, going against them usually produces guilt. It is impossible to talk of ethics without first considering some complementary and related terms. The three terms: ethics, morals, values are easily confused. Ethics describes a generally accepted set of moral principles. Morals describes the goodness or badness or right or wrong of actions. Values describes individual or personal standards of what is valuable or important. Moral Values are the worthy ideals or principles that one follows to distinguish the right from the wrong. These ideals or virtues are considered worthy in building up the character of an individual. Moral Value refers to the good virtues such as honesty, integrity, truthfulness, compassion, helpfulness, love, respectfulness, hard-work, etc.


The method of teaching moral values to students is universal. It is the most important duty of the teachers. If a child misbehaves or tells lies, people blame the parents and teachers. Thus examples of honesty and truthfulness in school and colleges are more effective than precepts or moral preaching. Students are very sensitive.
